The agricultural program of the local development unit promotes the action of improving the quality of living conditions for the small farmers, breeders and fishermen in Minia, Beni Suef and Qalubeyia governorates. This is achieved through developing the rural communities and empowering them to invest the available resources and experiences. Hence, they could reach economic, environmental and social competitive quality. During October 2014 the following achievements were fulfilled:
– Organizing small farmers in alliances and formal organizations that adopt their issues:
Based upon the belief in the sustainability of transferring small farmers from individual work to group work in farmers’ organizations in order to express and demand their rights, 402 members joined the farmers’ organizations of whom 131 were women in the local communities.
– Activating the role and participation of women:
Implemented income generating projects for 125 women including various projects such as (raising poultry, sorting milk, breeding sheep and goats, selling vegetables and fruits…) inside the local communities, this aimed at improving the participation of female farmers in the rural community and empowering them to increase the income of their families.
– High agricultural productivity models:
Improving the production of small farmers by implementing agricultural models for 1703 families and raising their awareness on good agricultural practices to reach more profitable crops
Concluding marketing contracting with the private sector companies
– Developing livestock production:
Vaccinated 18 sheep in vet care campaigns in cooperation with the Veterinary Service Agency.
