In the project of Empowering the Egyptian Family and Combating Female Genital Mutilation that is being funded by the National Council for Population in the constituency initiatives component, the West Medical Centre was equipped with medical equipment with a cost of 21,000 EGP. This aimed at providing quality health services for the citizens of El Masas District in Minia. This district represents 8 of the project local communities in Minia through the constituency study.
In the awareness component, 8 panels were held for 359 women who had girls at the female genital mutilation age. The panels discussed the female genital mutilation issue from the religious, social and medical perspectives. These panels were provided by Islamic Religious leaders, physicians and social activists. The work resulted into the abandoning of 282 families of practicing the female genital mutilation habit for their daughters. This was denoted through their participation in the panels and the conduct of home visits of the volunteers to the project local communities.
Through the project of Towards the Justice and Equality of Women and Children that aimed at providing them with their health rights, 309 women enjoyed their access to examinations on breast tumors and osteoporosis through the project. These examinations are not supplied by the public institutions and the health units of the 15 local communities in Minia, Beni Suef and Greater Cairo. We also provided medications for 276 people and referred some cases for advanced examinations. anti natal care for 50 pregnant women was organized, and diagnosis for 26 women was carried out. About 52 women used family planning methods through referring them to health units. The project focused upon women especially those at the childbearing age and at the menopause as well as providing them with their health rights and knowledge.
This was done through conducting 8 awareness meetings on health rights, diseases, their causes and protection against them. 232 women and mothers filled the clients’ satisfaction questionnaire on the performance of the health service providers, in addition to a sample of the five local communities of Minia Governorate. The sample was represented by 200 people. And based upon this study, the advocacy issue will be identified. In addition, CEOSS built the capacity of 17 partner voluntary leaders.
Eye Care Program:
The projects funded by the program achieved the examinations of 1117 cases and provided the medications for 307 cases. Also 8 cataract surgeries were carried out in order to reduce the blindness causes.
In the Project of Improving the Eye Health, 5 committees were elected at the local communities of Minia Governorate. About 464 citizens participated in the awareness and rehabilitation meetings for conducting the elections. Hence they elected 5 committees including 51 individuals and built their capacities through the meeting of setting executive regulations and how to manage initiatives relevant to eye health.
