Through the Eye programs 1737 patients were examined and diagnosed through 3 mobile units that provide these services. Medication was provided for 647 patients who needed it and 698 patients had an eyeglasses examination and correcting eye sight whether short-sightedness or long-sightedness by making medical eye-glasses for 72 cases and performing 30 cataract surgeries to reduce the causes of blindness for these cases. Through the project “Improving Eye Health” funded by BMZ in the environmental component a meeting was held with officials from the local units at the level of five partnering communities in Minia Governorate besides the health administration and partnering CBOs to set a joint work plan between the different parties to reduce environmental causes that have direct effects on eye health especially piles of garbage and to apply the systems followed by the local units to collect garbage. This is besides the drinking water and the sewage system in the project work areas. At the end of the meeting it was agreed to write a draft of understanding of the roles and responsibilities among the work parties to work towards reducing the environmental causes.
Through the project “Towards more Equal Opportunities for Women and Children to obtain their Health Rights” a number of 966 cases of groups most vulnerable to osteoporosis and breast tumors were examined, namely women, young women, children, and citizens not covered by health insurance. 863 patients were examined by the Health and Population Directorate in Minia through conducting field convoys in the mobile clinics. 40 pregnant women received services of follow up, analysis, and examination until they reached safe childbirth. Also, awareness raising events were conducted and attended by 106 women and mothers. 49 minor surgeries were performed and 2 citizens with heart diseases were referred to specialized entities.
