Adham is a 15-year-old boy from Mallawi, Minia. After school, he works in a carpentry workshop as co-carpenter while during the summer vacation he works all day. He says: “I wish I could play like other kids do, but my father is dead and I work after school to support my family.” He participated in the new project with the Friends Charity CBO, and attended many meetings with his fellow working children where they learned about their rights.
He was elected, along with 16 other children, in the children’s committee elections and attended a training about the elections and how to design a good electoral platform. Not only did Adham win the election, he was elected chief of the committee. He and his colleagues in the committee work on designing activities with the CBO to hold meaningful events for working children in their area.
“I wished that I could vote in the presidential elections but I’m still young. However, when I participated and won the elections of the working children committee I was very happy that I can assume an effective role to help my fellows gain their rights. when I grow up I’ll run for the parliamentary elections to maintain the rights of the children.”
