Amal is a 14-year-old girl who lives in Shoubra El Khaymah in Qalyoubia with her father, mother, and five siblings. Her family was not able to pay school tuition for Amal and her siblings,so each of them dropped out after finishing 5th grade. Amal started working in a sewing workshops in order to help her family, while attending literacy classes at a local mosque.
Amal’s eagerness to learn and to become involved in the community enabled her to feel the suffering of so many working children and she wished that she could do something to help working children like her.
The mosque announced preliminary meetings to introduce the Local Community Development CBO’s elected committee for working children. Amal participated in the meetings and decided to run in the elections to represent the working children on the elected committee.
After being elected, Amal participated in several trainings and she has had an effective, positive role tin changing the lives of working children in her community.
