CEOSS Peace Building and Crisis Management unit conducted a workshop addressing Crisis Management Skill & Social Cohesion Promotion in the period from 14-18 September 2014.
Light was shed on the integrated curriculum of conflicts and disputes; dealing with overlapping terminology that indicate different degrees of disputes such as (misunderstanding – problem – crisis – competition … etc.) and explaining the difference among them, identifying the roots of conflicts, their causes, the analysis and diagnosis means and the various necessary skills of dealing positively with disputes. During the workshop focus was made on some psychological aspects related to contact and communication and linked with the mechanisms of resolving disputes, such as negotiation, mediation, facilitation and arbitration. In the meantime emphasis was put on the sources of the negotiation power and the relative distribution of such power. We also dealt with the mutual solving method of problems; which is the cooperative image of negotiation to face the situations that require intensified efforts from all parties to avoid risks and achieve the target interests. We also dealt with the negotiation strategies.
The ultimate goal of this study is achieved when the student eventually gains more knowledge and acquires a range of new skills related to conflicts and disputes resolution and analysis, starting from his surrounding environment, then within his small community and with his peers at work.
