Egypt is about to take the first steps to carry out the Road Map through the Referendum on the constitutional amendments that were prepared by the Constitutional Committee after June 30th Revolution.
In this context, CEOSS FID has organized a seminar on Thursday, 9 Jan 2014 at 10:30 am entitled: “The June Revolution Constitution … Why?”
This seminar was attended by Mr. Amr Mousa, Constitutional Committee Head, Dr. Ahmed El-Borai, Minister of Social Solidarity, and a group of leading public figures, intellectuals, professors, religious leaders and journalists .
Mr. Amr Moussa said that the next president must act according to the constitution, so as not to create a dictator. Dr. Ahmed El-Borai said that despite the importance of the texts of the Constitution, what counts is to apply it. He added that the Constitution is “man made and subject to amendment; its goal is not to respond to all the demands, but to strike a balance between the people.“
It’s worth mentioning that CEOSS held several advocacy campaigns and meetings at the national level to include the rights of the poor and marginalized citizens in the new Constitution, that were attended by many intellectuals, farmers, and persons with disabilities. Recommendations that came out of these meetings met a positive feedback of the members of the Constitutional Committee and were taken into consideration while drafting the new constitution.
