CEOSS organized a workshop entitled Activating the Policies of Protecting Children at risk in Egypt on 18th and 19th of December 2013 at the CEOSS head office in Cairo. About 100 people participated in the workshop from the elected committee members for protecting children in Cairo, Minia and Beni Suef Governorates as well as representatives from ministries of Education, Health, Social Solidarity, Rehabilitation, Labor Force, Media and community based organizations.
The workshop aimed at presenting the policies of protecting children that are being provided by the various executive bodies such as health, education, rehabilitation of the disabled people, media, labor force and social solidarity
Each party presented a work paper that included the policies protecting the children. These policies are guaranteed by the Ministry or the affiliated executive agencies. They presented the existing problems that prevent them from providing the highest protection for the children at risk as well as some recommendations to activate these policies.
The workshop identified the gaps within the existing policies for protecting the children. They presented the suggestions for activating the protection policies and then formulated these suggestions in the form of clear policies that can be followed up during the coming period. This was carried out through the advocacy issues in order to activate the role of the protection committees and achieve the highest protection for the sake of the children at risk.
This workshop was conducted in the framework of “Empowering children at risk to obtain their rights” project. The project aims at empowering the children at risk to obtain their health and educational rights, implement constituency initiatives to achieve the best interest for the children at risk, empower and build the capacities of the governmental officials of the protection committees to fulfill their commitment towards the children, implement advocacy issues that aim at empowering the children to obtain their rights and finally achieve partnership and networking among all the concerned parties with the children’s work.
