Egyptians with disabilities face numerous challenges in their daily lives, these challenges can lead them to be isolated and marginalized. Additionally, people with disabilities in Egypt have been losing civil rights.
Empowering the people with disabilities to be economically independent is critical to fully integrating them into society. Without economic Independence social justice and equality are impossible. The issue of integrating people with disabilities into society requires efforts by public and private institutions. CEOSS is working through the ERADA program to renovate buildings, as well as provide assistive technologies and mobility devices to make Egyptian society more accessible.
Achievements:
- The ERADA program staff worked to expand the activities provided as part of the Willpower Program. This included establishing a new factory which includes several new units and workshops to design, build, and repair mobility devices and assistive technologies.
- CEOSS signed a cooperation agreement with the Japanese Embassy in Cairo to develop a new unit within the factory to produce artificial limbs. The factory is expected to begin operation in the latter half of 2016.
