Egyptians with disabilities face major challenges and difficult circumstances that lead them to isolation and marginalization. Additionally, Egyptians with disabilities are losing rights that have previously been afforded to them in the Egyptian constitution.
Empowering people with disabilities to be economically independent and find employment is one of the largest challenges facing the citizens with whom CEOSS works. Without access to jobs social justice and equality cannot be achieved. Furthermore, public spaces that are not accessible to people with disabilities hinder efforts to allow these people to integrate fully into Egyptian society. Thus, CEOSS’ ERADA efforts include renovation to public spaces, as well as providing mobility devices and assistive technologies to people with disabilities.
- CEOSS worked to expand the efforts of the Willpower Program.
- A new was built with multiple units and workshops to design, build, and repair mobility devises and assistive technologies.
- A cooperation agreement was signed by CEOSS and the Japanese Embassy in Cairo to develop a new unit for manufacturing artificial limbs. The unit is planning to open in the second half of 2016.
