The Environment and Housing Program aims to enable poor and marginalized families to live in healthy, safe homes. The program utilizes multiple interventions and approaches to benefit a broad spectrum of the populations in different working areas. These interventions include advocacy and capacity building with local leaders, building and renovation of homes, working to keep rotating capital in working communities to increase the number of beneficiaries, and creating paths for the financially disenfranchised to have access to better housing. All of the interventions within the program adhere to a beneficiary selection process that seeks to benefit those with the greatest need without discrimination.
- capacity building trainings were held for leaders and members of 11 communities in 4 governorates.
- 295 families who qualified for financial assistance were identified and applied to have their living situations improved through the program.
- 254 families had their houses improved through renovation and construction interventions through the distribution of loans equaling 1,479,500 Egyptian Pounds.
- A coordination and planning meeting was held to begin environmental condition improvement measures in Ezbet El Nasr and Al Waraq. These meetings were attended by local government leaders in the Basatin area, elected committee members, and project staff.
