The director of the General Agency for Combating Illiteracy and Adult Education in Minia sent a thank you letter for CEOSS General Director for the exerted efforts by CEOSS in Minia and its contribution to solve the illiteracy problem in Minia, in addition to the distinguished results at the local communities. These efforts resulted into the attendance of 3299 illiterates in the exams, of which 2148 illiterates succeeded in passing the exams of the General Agency. This result represents about 80 % of the total attendants and 53 % of the succeeded people in four districts in Minia.
CEOSS seeks to improve the quality of life for the citizens, improve the educational standard (formal and informal education), reduce the illiteracy rates and emphasize on law no. 8 in 1991 to combat illiteracy. Article one states that eradicating illiteracy and educating adults are considered national duties and responsibilities to which all the ministries, general agencies, companies, political parties, all governmental institutions and civil society organizations should adhere.
And in this respect CEOSS is implementing the “Education is Power” Initiative that is funded by Vodafone Egypt Foundation for developing the community in collaboration with the General Agency for Combating Illiteracy and Adult Education as well as the National Council for Women. The initiative tends to eradicate the illiteracy of 40000 illiterates in CEOSS local districts (12500 illiterates in Minia, 12500 illiterates in Beni Suef, 10000 illiterates in Cairo, and 5000 illiterates in Qalubeya) as well as empowering the citizens to obtain their right to education and pass the final examination of the General Agency for Adult Education.
