My name is Rasha, I’m 34 years old from Al Sheikh Ali village, I’m married with 3 children. I have had a disability in my left footSince I was 2 years-old. Because of my disability, I never received an education as a child. My husband is a painter and he runs the buffet at the court of Beni Suef. We have difficulty supporting our children financially and live in poor conditions. I have thought a lot about helping my husband at his work, but I as do not read or write I was unable to help at the buffet. Last year I heard about literacy classes being subsudized by our local associations Knowledge is Power Program. At first, I felt that the classes were too from our house and my disability would be too difficult to overcome to attend classes. I decided that I could overcome the difficulty of my disabled foot in order to learn how to read and write.
After I finished literacy classes, I took a final exam, and received a literacy certificate. Now, I’m able to go to the buffet and work with my husband, I write the drinks and I’m responsible for the accounts of the buffet and the orders. I’ve also begun to teach my son math and Arabic as my husband has no time between being a painter and the work of the court.
I believe that my life has changed for the better. I now take the time to convince others to learn at the class, education is blessing by Allah.
