CEOSS organized a meeting at its headquarters that was attended by Dr. Olivet Tavit – Secretary General of the World Council of Churches along with a number of officials, intellectuals and social and religious leaders in Egypt. Tavit said that the social fabric in Egypt involves all Egyptians, the whole world looks at young people in Egypt and see the power of change they have.”
He added, “from a responsibility perspective, we , the churches and politicians have questions about what is happening in the region and in Egypt in particular. Our relation should not be limited to Christians but with everyone,” pointing out that the Council supports all Egyptians to live with love and peace.
He pointed out that the world looks at what is happening in Egypt with keen interest and said, “It is a great honor for me to visit Egypt these days, to express the interest of the members of the World Council of Churches, and express our friendship and our love for Egypt, which was founded 1948 and comprises of 350 Church, and which is a sign of the will to build bridges between churches and nations.”
He pointed out that the radical changes that have occurred in this country, there are those who call it a revolution and others call it the Arab Spring, but there has to be time to settle things. He said, “When we speak of World Council of Churches we are not talking about us and you, but together to be active in our communities for change, and when we talk about Christian Unity it is shown through solidarity between Christians, where we are ready to blend with others. ”
